Our Story
Healthcare is broken—and doctors need help. When Dr. Jessica Wu saw her colleagues leaving medicine because of burnout and logistical fatigue, she started thinking like an MD. What were the major pain points? How could she make the day-to-day more seamless for physicians? Dr. Wu and her team interviewed hundreds of doctors to better understand their wants and needs. The doctors’ biggest concern? Not having the resources, time, and freedom to do what they love most: help their patients.
Determined to restore the passion and joy in medical practice, Dr. Wu and veteran tech expert Florin Toader co-founded Residen, a new business model for physicians. The Residen mission is simple: give doctors the flexibility and autonomy they need to truly thrive and provide excellent care to their patients. Ultimately, this married team—a Harvard-trained dermatologist and a technology specialist who’s consulted for Amgen and IBM—want to do for doctors what they do for everyone else: make their lives easier and better.
Our Founders
Jessica Wu, M.D.
Dr. Jessica Wu is a board-certified dermatologist, who launched her private practice in Los Angeles more than 25 years ago. She’s author of the best-selling book Feed Your Face: Younger, Smoother Skin and a Beautiful Body in 28 Delicious Days and has appeared on Good Morning America and CNN and has been featured in The New York Times, People and The Wall Street Journal. She is also a regular contributor to the KTLA Morning News in Los Angeles. Dr. Wu has served as an investigator in clinical research trials, and developed two skincare lines sold at retail stores nationwide. She has lectured at national and international medical conferences, and is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the Medical Council of the American Society for Nutrition.
Dr. Wu holds a medical degree from Harvard Medical School.
Florin Toader
Florin Toader started working in tech 25 years ago and was the co-founder of Tepik, which specialized in system architecture, network and application design and development, and cybersecurity. He designed custom software that touched all business operations for clients such as Public Storage. Toader is a graduate of the University of Southern California with degrees in electrical engineering and international relations; and was a PhD candidate at MIT.
